As the grandson of a casket maker, Gene Hutchens has been a part of funeral service since birth. A veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, Gene taught at the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science and the American Academy of Funeral Service in New York City before establishing his own funeral home. In 1955, Gene and Rose Marie, his wife, founded the Florissant Mortuary in Old Town Florissant. By 1965, they had opened their current facility, the Hutchens Mortuary, located at 675 Graham Road in Florissant.

Mission
Our mission, as a family owned firm, is to offer care and compassion to each family placing their trust in us. For every life honored, we will provide a personalized and dignified service with affordability.
Vision
Our vision is to embrace the new dimensions of funeral service. More and more families are choosing a simple and dignified way to honor the life of their loved one. We are meeting those expectations by offering affordable alternatives to the traditional service. We also provide for those who wish to retain certain traditions while adding their own contemporary ideas. Another service we offer is cremation. With the most comprehensive cremation services in our area, we have made cremation an affordable alternative for families. At Hutchens Mortuary, each family who turns to us for funeral care service can expect the same care and compassion we would give our own family.
