History & Staff
We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

Our History
As the grandson of a casket maker, Gene Hutchens has been a part of funeral service since birth. A veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, Gene taught at the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science and the American Academy of Funeral Service in New York City before establishing his own funeral home. In 1955, Gene and Rose Marie, his wife, founded the Florissant Mortuary in Old Town Florissant. By 1965, they had opened their current facility, the Hutchens Mortuary, located at 675 Graham Road in Florissant.
Now in his eighties, Gene Hutchens is still a very active member of the business while new generations of the Hutchens family have joined the firm. Gene and Rose Marie's, son, John is president and a co-owner of the firm. He started with the company at age 15 and has worked with his father for over 33 years. In 1985, Nancy, Gene and Rose Marie's eldest daughter, started with the company and presently oversees the pre-arrangement program.
